The coastal air of Biloxi, heavy with salt and history, was the only world Karla had ever known. She carried the Gulf Coast in her spirit: resilient, sun-kissed, and slow to anger. A little over an hour away in Saraland, Alabama, Demetrius grew up amidst pine trees and Southern hospitality. Both were destined to cross paths at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi, a small, Presbyterian liberal arts school where fate, and an awkward first meeting, awaited them in 2003.
 
Their first interaction was brief and forgettable, a clumsy exchange of names in a crowded student center that left them both slightly flustered and quick to retreat. The moment hung in the air like an unresolved chord, ensuring that for the next few years, their interactions were limited to polite nods and quick smiles as they passed each other on the campus grounds.
 
Life moved on, and after graduation, Belhaven became a distant memory. Karla returned to the familiar shores of Biloxi, and Demetrius established his life back in Saraland. Years stretched into a decade, the awkward introduction of 2003 fading into the background noise of life.
 
Then came August 2019. The digital age, with its long reach and infinite memory, intervened. One evening, scrolling through his Facebook feed, Demetrius paused. A picture of Karla, smiling and vibrant, caught his eye. He remembered that awkward moment years ago, a silly, fleeting memory that still brought a hint of a smile. He hesitated, then liked the photo.
 
A "like" is a small thing, but in the quiet of a summer night, it was a lifeline. Karla saw the notification and a similar flicker of recognition sparked. He sent a message, polite and friendly, a simple "How have you been?" that quickly blossomed into hours of conversation spanning days. The awkwardness of their college years had vanished, replaced by an easy, comfortable connection.
 
Their first date was set for September 7th,&#160; 2019. Demetrius drove from Saraland to Biloxi. It was the perfect Southern reunion, a blend of shared past and hopeful future. The date went flawlessly, a testament to the idea that some connections just need time to bloom. By September 29th, 2019, they were officially a couple, embarking on a long-distance relationship fueled by weekend trips and late-night calls.
 
The next six years were a journey of merging two lives rooted in different coastal towns. They weathered the normal ups and downs of life, their love growing stronger with each challenge, each shared laugh, each quiet moment of understanding. Karla&#8217;s Biloxi spirit and Demetrius&#8217;s Saraland charm were a perfect match.
 
Then came the day. Six years, one month, and two days after making it official, the date was October 31st, 2025. Demetrius had planned the perfect moment and that moment had arrived. He got down on one knee, a nervous but determined smile on his face. The question, delivered from the heart, hung in the gentle breeze. Karla, with tears welling in her eyes, didn&#8217;t hesitate. She said yes, sealing the promise made years ago on a college campus in Jackson, a love story brought to life by a simple "like." The awkward beginnings had blossomed into a beautiful, enduring love story, proving that sometimes, the best love stories are worth the wait.&#160;
